Chances are if you subscribe to this newsletter, Tomb Raider is in your hands now. Well, perhaps not physically in your hands as you’re reading this email, but I’m betting you rushed out on release day, picked up a copy, and soon after found yourself immersed in Lara Croft’s newest adventure. I hope you’ve enjoyed every second of your time with the Endurance’s crew and are now sharing your experience on Yamatai with friends online.

Before I get too sappy about what an incredible moment this is for the team, let’s cover off on some of the major announcements this past month.

If you’re still on the fence about picking up Tomb Raider, perhaps some of the quotes below will help you make up your mind. We’re incredibly proud as a team to see a steady stream of high scores roll in from press, and are even more excited to start seeing the chatter from fans online.

Game Informer: “Crystal Dynamics has nailed a pitch-perfect new vision for one of gaming’s most recognizable characters, and revitalizes her for what I hope will be many more installments.” – 9.25/10

Telegraph:Tomb Raider sits comfortably as one of this generation’s best action games.” – 5/5

IGN:Tomb Raider is well-written, sympathetic, exciting, beautiful and just incredibly well-made.” – 9.1/10

You should also check out this clip. Conan O’Brien reviewed Tomb Raider, too. Sort of.

Fact: Tomb Raider fans love goodies. Tomb Raider Tours is evidence enough of this. Many Croft collectors have been waiting patiently for us to reveal merchandise for our new title, so we went one step further and created our own Tomb Raider store. Consider it a one-stop-shop for clothing, multimedia, and collectables.

Keenly aware of our massive female fandom, I’m especially proud that our store also hosts a slew of items designed specifically for women. Head over to the Tomb Raider Store to check out the initial line-up now, ready to ship orders worldwide. Trust me, there’s much more to come in the near future.

Speaking of goodies, this item deserves its own special callout. Sumthing Else Music Works has teamed up with Crystal Dynamics to publish Tomb Raider’s 20-track original score. Composed by BAFTA award-winning Jason Graves, the soundtrack released at retail alongside Tomb Raider, as well as for digital download via Amazon, iTunes, and other popular music portals. You can also purchase it at the official Tomb Raider store.

Here’s another awesome announcement. Crystal Dynamics and AMD introduced TressFX last month – the first real-time hair rendering and physics system in a playable PC game. You can spy Lara’s trademark locks with and without treatment above, and read more about the technology on the AMD blog. Here’s to pioneering more industry advancements in the future!

The Final Hours of Tomb Raider was an incredible behind the scenes look at the heart, soul, and guts of game design. While the video series has drawn to a close, the Final Hours of Tomb Raider app continues the unprecedented level of access to our studio. I’m talking early concept art of Lara with cropped hair, never-before-seen gameplay prototypes, and candid interviews with the team about the highs and lows of Tomb Raider’s development. You can download the Final Hours of Tomb Raider App for iTunes, Amazon, and Steam.

Check out my favorites from February below! As the DeviantArt contest is still underway, I’m being careful not to highlight any participants so to remain unbiased. As a result, I had to get creative with my favorites this month! Remember, you can submit your own fan tributes to community@crystald.com.

At CES this year we revealed a product everyone in the studio is particularly proud of – the Limited Edition Wireless Tomb Raider Xbox 360 controller. This thing of beauty is as tough and rugged as Lara herself, featuring a two-layer color finish with laser etching for a tactile experience. Inspired by Lara’s trusty climbing axe, it features a customizable d-pad and wireless range up to 30 feet. As a bonus you get a download code for an Exclusive Xbox 360 multiplayer character with purchase – the Scavenger Archer. For more details, and to order your own, visit the Microsoft store!

If you’re looking for a few more Tomb Raider goodies, we also recently announced a line of phone cases from Bigben Interactive, and our official strategy guides via Brady Games!

If the Tomb Raider fandom has one thing in spades, It’s incredibly talented fan artists. Recognizing the strength and talent of our community, we’ve partnered with DeviantArt and Microsoft to run an art contest the duration of February with some really incredible prizes on the line – including the chance to have your work featured on official Tomb Raider merchandise. Read up on the rules here, and get your creative juices flowing!

In case you missed this part of our big multiplayer reveal, you can tune into the fourth episode of our Final Hours series below.

While British born Camilla Luddington is the official voice and performance actress for Lara Croft, we’re extremely proud to be localizing Tomb Raider in a variety of languages worldwide. We’ve recently made several announcements about localized VO, including revealing Lara’s German, French, and Polish voice actresses. In trailblazing news, we also revealed that Tomb Raider will be the first Square Enix title to be localized in Arabic. Keep an eye on the blog for a handful more VO announcements before launch day.

I’ll end on a quick note! Do you hunt achievements with the same enthusiasm Lara unearths relics? The official list of Achievements and Trophies for Tomb Raider has been revealed, and you can take a gander here!

I’m back! As in back in the office after thirty incredible days on the road in London, Moscow, and New York City. Read on for a recap of each pit stop, and for new information on pre-order incentives and Collector’s Edition details!

Mid-September I took off for a lengthy tour to demo Tomb Raider around the globe, starting at Eurogamer in London. Tomb Raider’s show floor presence was impressive, and attracted some major cosplay talent in turn. Highlights of the convention included a really cool developer session featuring Senior Art Director Brian Horton and myself, and a massive community event held at Square Enix Europe HQ.

Igromir marked my first visit to Russia, and the community welcomed me with such incredible warmth. I spent most of the show participating in interviews, but managed to escape the press room to snap some show floor photos, kick off a community night, and host an awesome Lara cosplay competition.

NYCC was equally successful, and was home to a really neat experiential activity. Attendees were able to try their hand at archery within the convention hall, aided by professionals from a local school. NYCC also saw a sizable turnout of Lara cosplayers, and gave me the chance to treat east coast webmasters, moderators, and super-fans to a small community gathering.

Sadly, we were not able to make it out to the Brazil Game Show, but fans were there in full force and provided snaps from the show floor. We’ll be travelling about quite a bit more prior to launch on March 5, so hopefully we’ll see you soon!

Tomb Raider Lead Writer Rhianna Pratchett has spent some quality time with the press this month, detailing the immense task she’s undertaken these past two years. You can browse through a few of the articles below.
• IGN: “Rewriting Lara Croft
• VG24/7: “Tomb Raider – Rhianna Pratchett on Writing Lara 2.0
• The Escapist: “The Craft Behind Croft
• GamesIndustry.biz: “Rhianna Pratchett: “Rewriting Lara Croft

Last month the global Square Enix team kicked off a charitable initiative to benefit Child’s Play, featuring ten rare pieces of art from its AAA franchises. Tomb Raider contributed in a big way, with an original ink drawing by Senior Art Director Brian Horton, an autographed piece of concept art by Crystal’s Brenoch Adams, and an original acrylic painting by fan artist Priscillia Thomas. In total we raised over $3,500 for children in need. Thank you so much for your support!

We’ve also begun to roll out information about our global pre-order programs. To aid in uncovering offers in your area, we’ve launched a hub at tombraider.com/preorder. Incentives include new skins for Lara, art books, challenge tombs, and more!

Additionally, we recently revealed European Survival and Collector’s Editions for Tomb Raider. The former includes a mini art book, double sided map of the island, and a branded waterproof survival pouch, in addition to a digital soundtrack and DLC weapon pack. The Collector’s Edition includes all the aforementioned items, in addition to an 8” Play Arts Kai figure of Lara Croft. All the goodies will be housed in a unique metal survival box.

If you visit the pre-order hub and don’t see information for your area – fret not. More details will be made public soon, in regards to both pre-order and Collector’s Edition availability.
